Rosetown's story begins on September 14, 1905, when James and Anne Rose came from Lancashire, England, and became the first settlers in the area. Two years later, a group of local people wanting a post office put in an application and chose to honour the town's most senior settlers by naming it for the Roses. Because the name "Rose" was already taken, they added "town," and the Rosetown post office opened on September 7, 1907. A Jewish colony was also established near Rosetown after 1906.
